GCP Summer 2024 Internships and Micro-Internships (Summer 2024)

The GCP Summer Internship Program alongside Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University is in its second summer! Internships this summer will run throughout the summer semesters, starting as early as May 20, 2024 through as late as August 9, 2024. Students fill out one application after reviewing the positions below and rank their top internships (three maximum). Based on internship interests and applications, we will place interns in micro-internships (up to 80 hours over the summer at a $1600 scholarship) or in a part-time or full-time internships (hours and pay rate confirmed by company).

 

Students: Please review the opportunities below, list your top 3, and fill out the application based on the school you attend. You will be required to upload a resume onto your application. All applications will be due by April 19, 2024 by 11:59PM.

FULL TIME/PART TIME INTERNSHIPS
Auxilium Health, Inc (Major - Biomedical Engineering, Microbiology; Hybrid)

Auxilium is introducing next-generation wound care technology that monitors existing and prevents new infections. Our goal is to give wound patients their lives back without adding new burdens. Through our technological advances, Auxilium is positioning itself to provide a new standard in wound healing for patients and medical professionals.  ​

 

Conduct research, assist in antimicrobial, biocompatability, stability & wound healing testing, collaborate in the design of new product features, and much more. At the end of this internship, you will complete a project summary report in the form of a power point presentation.

 

Qualifications include a strong academic background with basic laboratory research experience, proficiency in Google Workspace and MS Office suite, and successful completion of introductory courses in relevant scientific disciplines. Experience with software tools for data analysis and visualization is a plus.

CollaMedix Inc (Major - Biomedical Engineering, Biology; On-site)

CollaMedix designs and manufactures medical implants for soft tissue repair and support based on a proprietary technology for producing strong, dense, pure collagen threads and bio-fabrics.

 

We are seeking an intern to assist with data analysis of experimental implants in animal models, design and bench testing of implants, and possibly helping to conduct experiments. Depending on the interns interest and background, the intern could also be involved in the manufacturing process and developing process improvements.

 

Ideal background would be biomedical engineering, biology, or related. Competencies: computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office), data analysis and statistics, general laboratory skills.

Comsat Architects (Major - Computer Science, AI, Data Science; On-site)

As one of two interns, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving the development of machine learning models for image processing, including classification, object detection, and segmentation. Additionally, there may be opportunities to work on projects related to signal processing and satellite network routing.

 

  1. AI/Machine Learning Applied to Satellites Internship-

    • Responsibilities:

      • Develop and implement machine learning models for image processing tasks using Python (with PyTorch/TensorFlow, etc.)

      • Use open-source satellite data to aggregate datasets used to train machine learning models

      • Work with satellite data to develop models for satellite image analysis

      • Potentially contribute to signal processing and satellite network routing projects

      • Use version control systems (e.g., git) for code management and collaborations

    • Required Qualifications:

      • Programming skills in Python, familiarity with PyTorch/TensorFlow is a plus

H.C. Starck is a leading premium supplier of the technology metals tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, niobium, and rhenium, and thermal spray powders. We are currently recruiting candidates for an engineer for our Fabricated Products Division. This position will support the development and enhancement of new products/ advanced processes in tungsten and molybdenum metal.  

 

The primary responsibilities of these two interns will be to characterize and document process and products for optimize processes in establishing properties to meet or exceed current products. This includes documentation of processes through written and verbal communications, and to determine cost savings and meet all applicable quality requirements.  
 
Working as directed from engineers and technicians in solving processing and material problems as they arise, support includes additive manufacturing, aerospace, high temperature application and electronic materials.

The development of a CT scanner encompasses numerous projects that demand the expertise of engineers from various fields, including EE(FPGA, PCBA, power systems), 
ME, SW(C++, CUDA), embedded SW(Linux C++, CANopen, motion control), imaging algorithms, medical physics, and more.  If you want to work on-site with a company developing equipment and system components for x-rays, iRay Imaging is it!

Land Energy (Major - Marketing/Communications; On-site)

LAND Energy is an electric vehicle and battery startup in Gordon Square, with 90% of our parts made here in Cleveland. We are looking for a full-time marketing intern to work on site this summer. 

 

Some of your duties will include partnership marketing, where you'll work alongside our Head of Marketing to build out an online marketing center, and help dealers strategize their LAND marketing efforts. You'll also help with content creation, and work alongside our Art Director to produce compelling and high-quality content.

 

Must have familiarity with design and video editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite. Preferred proficiencies include social media platforms, developing and implementing effective social media content strategies, and skilled engagement with followers on social media. Experience in managing social media crises and moderating discussions to maintain a positive brand image are highly desirable qualities. Furthermore, the ability to use insights and analytics to refine strategies over time will be a valuable asset to this role.

Nidec Industrial Solutions (Major - Electrical Engineering; On-site)

Nidec Industrial Solutions designs, manufactures and installs reliable and efficient power, motion and control systems with attention to life cycle service and performance to optimize energy consumption.  We are seeking two electrical engineering interns to assist on a variety of projects.  We look for students who have experience/knowledge of motors, drives, PLC, and HMIs. Our company works with EV Chargers, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Motors, Drives, and design and manufacture of Encoders.

Nordson Corporation (Major - IT/Computer Science; Hybrid)

At Nordson Corporation we engineer, manufacture and market differentiated products and systems used for precision dispensing and processing in a variety of end markets, from packaging to transportation and medical to electronics.


The main project for this internship is to develop a PowerBI dashboard that would connect different systems into a single report (i.e., Lease database, energy/emissions database, HR/workforce database, safety database, etc).  There could also be opportunities to participate in developing 'limited assurance' processes and other related tasks.  There are several other areas for potential exposure, including forced labor prevention, supply chain, technical exposure on energy projects, and more, depending on the candidate's interest and the nature of the role.

Pioneer Athletics (Major - Chemistry; On-site)

Focused on premier field maintenance and applications, Pioneer Athletics is looking for a chemistry student to intern full time this summer on our R&D and/or Quality Control team . The intern will perform the following work:

  • Test finished paint samples to ensure they meet our quality control specifications

  • Test incoming raw materials and aerosol cans to ensure they meet our quality control specifications

  • Perform field testing on new and existing products to ensure they meet quality standards 

  • Help QC Chemist match colors under various light sources using sight and computer-aided color instrumentation

  • Perform monthly quality control checks on in stock samples

  • Have an understanding of viscosity, pH, non-volatile solids and color in paint

  • Maintain project records and be able to create reports​

Trailhead Biosystems (Major - Biomedical Engineering, BioPhysics, BioTech, BioChem; On-site)

These two Design Transfer Internships will offer exposure to a regenerative medicine-focused biotechnology start-up company and enrich the current manufacturing processes being executed at Trailhead Biosystems. Our team focuses on translating adherent cell protocols for suspension-based bioreactors and scaling operations to generate clinically relevant cell amounts.  Previous exposure to/experience in biochemistry/molecular biology and making cell media in a laboratory setting preferred.

UAVistas (Major - Computer Science, IT, Data Science; Hybrid)

The focus of this project would be to design and prototype two new drones, one for reliability and ease of flight/general use and the other for under-canopy data collection (reliability and ease of flight would also be nice). Required skills and competencies include: CAD and other design tools, electrical engineering, understanding flight and sensing systems, and preferably experience in robotics, computer vision, and building devices from scratch. Experience with edge computing and mapping is a plus. The deliverable would be a working prototype of one if not both drones.

MICRO-INTERNSHIPS
Aerozone Alliance (Major - Business or Marketing/Communications; Hybrid)

Help design a protocol on how to elevate understanding of NASA, STEM and Aerospace related opportunities in Northeast Ohio (NEO). 3 target audiences: (1) students and job seekers, (2) businesses in the supply chain, (3) public leaders, etc.

 

  • Conduct cursory review of who regionally is sharing NASA, STEM, and Aerospace related stories in NEO.

  • Interview 6 stakeholders and determine what are the opportunities where the Aerozone is uniquely positioned to help advance the awareness.

  • Create a technically sophisticated plan/template of how to plan, capture, develop, and distribute collateral. Consider what type of content we need to capture, how to best capture/develop the content (consider AI platforms, etc.), content promotion/marketing channels (social media, etc.), potential partners, etc.

  • Test the process and develop 1 piece of collateral

  • Summarize and document findings.

 

Qualifications:

  • Looking for a candidate who has a passion for the region, STEM and Aerospace.

Atmata LCC (Major - Multiple; On-site)

We are a student based startup at CWRU focusing on robotic solutions for the film industry. We are currently looking for a sales and marketing micro-intern to help us launch our new prototype.

​

  1. Marketing - Work with the team to develop a sales and marketing strategy. Based on that strategy, they will kickstart sales by preselling and presenting products based on our strategy. Preferred skills include sales experience, marketing and sales strategies, and market research and analysis experience. 

  2. Engineering - The control engineer micro-intern should have experience in low-level PID (Proportional-Integral Derivative) control for motors and actuators, as well as high-level control for trajectory generation and path planning in the context of mobile robotics.

Through our technological advances, Auxilium is positioning itself to provide a new standard in wound healing for patients and medical professionals.  There are 4 remote opportunities this summer:

  1. Economics - Conduct market analysis and develop pricing strategy for Auxilium's wound care technology, including conducting market research and analysis, developing pricing models and optimal pricing strategies, researching healthcare reimbursement policies, and explain how our technology brings medical and financial benefits through cost analysis. This will all be synthesized in a document that outlines our competitive analysis, pricing strategy, and health economic story. Qualifications include a proficiency in Google Workspace, MS Office, and data analysis tools, experience with interpreting market reports and trends, strong analytical skills and ability to drive insight from complex datasets, and the ability to manage your own workload independently, multi-task, and prioritize effectively. Successful completion of introductory courses in economics, finance, or equivalent.

  2. Graphic Design - Design graphics and images for Auxilium's wound dressing, such as wound healing phases, interactions with wounds, and mechanisms of action. The project will result in graphics and images that can be used in presentations, marketing material, and websites. Qualifications include proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other graphic design software, web design frameworks and animation software, and strong storytelling skills and ability to communicate through designs. Should be currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field.

Qualifications include a proficiency in Google Workspace and MS Office, Experience with Project Management software such as Wrike and Monday, and the successful completion of introductory courses in marketing, business, or equivalent. Preferred proficiencies include the ability to manage own workload independently, multi-task, and prioritize effectively, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

BlazeBite (Major - Multiple; Remote)

BlazeBite is an online platform that gives restaurants, stadiums and other venues the ability to provide an all-digital dining experience for their customers. We are dedicated to providing an environment where interns can significantly contribute to real-world projects, gaining invaluable skills and experiences in their respective domains.  There are two opportunities this summer:

  1. Marketing - The AI-Driven Marketing Micro-Internship is perfect for individuals with a blend of creativity and analytical prowess, ready to merge marketing strategies with AI-driven tools. For this 80 hour project, the intern will be responsible for crafting engaging content, utilizing AI technologies to push the boundaries of traditional marketing, and fostering community engagement to elevate BlazeBite’s brand awareness. Essential skills include a strong grasp of digital marketing principles, proficiency with AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, and excellent communication skills. The deliverables for this role include a series of AI-generated marketing campaigns, a measurable increase in social media engagement, and enhanced brand visibility through innovative content creation.

  2. Computer Science - Our Mobile App Developer Micro-Internship is targeted towards a tech-savvy individual passionate about mobile application development. For this 80 hour project, the intern will play a crucial role in enhancing our existing mobile apps for iOS and Android, as well as contributing to the development of a new Kiosk app. Key responsibilities encompass coding, testing, and launching new app functionalities, with a focus on optimizing user experience and app performance. The ideal candidate should have solid experience in Swift and Kotlin, a collaborative spirit, and a problem-solving approach. Expected deliverables include the successful implementation of new features, enhancements to app performance, and significant input into the Kiosk app project.

Bloc Digital (Major - Marketing/Communications, Business Administration; On-site)

Bloc is hoping to hire up to two on-site interns that can help in the marketing/business development side of things. Bloc Digital supports industrial sectors with marketing, training, and industry 4.0 solutions.  As a member of our marketing/business development team, you will have the opportunity to work on projects aimed at expanding our presence in Ohio and Kansas markets. You'll collaborate with our team to identify potential leads, utilize our internal CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system, and engage with new customers. Proficiencies should include communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, time management, and basic business development understanding. Successful completion of the internship may lead to opportunities for full-time employment upon graduation.

 

Cleveland Clinic Cyber Security (Major - Computer Science; Hybrid)

As part of our IT and cyber security family, you'll do more than explore and expand your discipline and skills.  Help our teams stay connected, up to date and equipped with the groundbreaking tools and technologies that are changing patients' lives.  Successful interns will have entry level computer skills and ability to learn new concepts quickly.  There are two opportunities:

  1. Working with the Cleveland Clinic Cyber Security team, you will interact with several of our cyber teams to provide customer service to our internal team.  Successful interns will have entry level computer skills and ability to learn new concepts quickly.

  2. Working with the Cleveland Clinic Cyber Security team, this intern will create operating templates and help establish process improvement processes

Cleveland Metroparks (Major - Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology; On-site)

Interns will help staff in the Division of Natural Resources at Cleveland Metroparks with conservation and natural resource management-related projects, including video monitoring. When animals trigger either of the two cameras, photos are taken, allowing us to inventory rare and elusive wildlife species in protected areas. The intern will assist with the following: a) checking cameras and swapping out cards, and  b) identifying rare and elusive wildlife specie in the captured images. We are particularly interested in documenting smooth green snakes weasels. Skills: Computer proficiency, willingness to conduct brief field excursions, and patience to review images will make a successful internship. The intern may prepare a brief report based on data analysis on these tagged images to describe general trends in documented wildlife species.

GNCO, Inc. (Major - IT, Business Analytics, Data Science; Hybrid)

GNCO Corporation is a holding company in Cleveland that oversees a wide range of leading material handling businesses across the country. We are looking for a student proficient in Power BI and SQL, with preference for experience in Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or similar ERP systems. This micro-internship involves converting existing Power BI reports connected to an old Sage ERP to Business Central, streamlining data and collaborating with end-users and the Business Systems team for optimization, following pre-mapped data conversion guidelines.

  1. Business/Engineering - The Technical Product Management micro-internship is seeking a detail-oriented individual to streamline our engineering processes. Responsibilities include conducting weekly check-ins with our offshore engineering team, overseeing test flight and beta releases, and prioritizing bug fixes. You'll also play a key role in enhancing user onboarding and recommending UX improvements, collaborating closely with marketing and business development teams. Your final deliverable will be a roadmap for end-of-year goals.

    Preferred qualifications include strong organizational skills, familiarity with Jira, and understanding of sprints and agile methodology. The ability to effectively translate user feedback into technical requirements is essential.

  2. Marketing/Communications - The Marketing micro-internship offers a dynamic opportunity to develop a comprehensive marketing calendar, including strategically integrating multiple social media platforms and email campaigns. This project involves crafting engaging email and social media campaigns, while maintaining a cohesive brand presence. The intern will track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and fine-tune the campaign strategy as needed, while effectively managing allocated marketing budgets. Additionally, the role involves proactive engagement in customer discovery activities, including gathering valuable feedback through direct interactions with customers.

    Qualifications include proficiency with Canva and Mailchimp as well as knowledge of video editing. Preferred skills include experience in effectively managing and growing high-volume social media accounts.

  3. Business - The Business Development micro-internship is seeking a proactive individual to drive our contractor partnership initiatives. Responsibilities include compiling a comprehensive list of local contractors, fostering strategic partnerships with at least 5 home contractors, and creating a contractor ambassador program to enhance customer engagement and organic growth. You'll spearhead outreach efforts to homeowners and potential business partners, with a focus on user acquisition.

    Preferred qualifications include familiarity with HubSpot and Mailchimp, and bonus points for knowledge of home services or AI. Strong communication, negotiation, and program management skills are essential, along with the ability to refine and contribute to our business model.

SupplyNow Inc (Major - Sales & Marketing; Remote)

Objective:

  • Utilize a strategic blend of sales and marketing tactics to significantly increase SupplyNow's restaurant end-user base within two months, targeting 20 new users by the end of April and 50 by the end of May.
